From Chaos to Clarity: Organizing the Revit Project Browser

February 21, 2025 Cherisse Biddulph

When you start a project in Revit using the default templates, the Project Browser organizes items in a standard way: views are grouped by type, sheets are sorted by name and number, and schedules are arranged alphabetically. However, you’re not limited to this setup. You can customize how views, sheets, and schedules are displayed by adjusting the Browser Organization settings for each tab (shown below). If the default arrangement doesn’t meet your needs, you can further personalize it by duplicating and modifying the Floor Plans category in the Project Browser to create a new type. This lets you group related views together, making them easier to access and manage.

    2. In the Browser Organization dialog box, select a different view scheme on the Views tab, such as Type/Discipline, and click OK
    3. The Project Browser updates to sort by view type (e.g., Floor Plans, Ceiling Plans, etc.), then by discipline. (Whereas the default scheme all will display all views within their group, meaning all floor plan views will be grouped in the Floor Plans group, all ceiling plan views will be grouped in the Ceiling Plans group, etc.)
