Autodesk Inventor 2023 Model States – Zero Quantity Solution

With the release of Model States in Inventor 2022, I was quite busy writing and teaching people about this great new functionality. If you haven’t caught my ASCENT webcast or my AU 2021 Model States class, they would be great places to start learning this functionality. Please check them out here!

One of the most common questions that I got in my sessions was “How can I remove the zero quantity (suppressed) component from the BOM/Parts List tables?”

Answer for Inventor 2022 Users - Unfortunately, a Parts List of a Model State version will show quantity 0 for any components that are suppressed. I found this on the Autodesk Inventor discussion forum as a workaround. 

Answer for Inventor 2023 Users – Yes!!! This can now be done in 2023. The following explains how:

A new  (BOM Settings) option has been added to the Bill of Materials dialog box that provides options (shown below) to customize whether suppressed components are shown in the BOM or not.

  • Components that are suppressed in the model or a Model State are displayed in the BOM in gray if Hide Suppressed Components in BOM is disabled (shown on the left below). Once enabled, the suppressed component is removed from the BOM list, as shown on the right in Figure 23–11.

 

  • To renumber the list of items sequentially to account for suppressed components, select Renumber Items Sequentially. The components shown below have been renumbered to account for the suppressed Wheel component.

 

I know that there will be many that will be pleased with this enhancement. I hope that this helps explain how you can now remove your zero quantity components from your BOM/Part List tables.
