For those of you who joined me on June 13th for my webcast on “Tips to Work Effectively in a Team Environment using AutoCAD 2019”, thank you for taking time out of your day. Q: Can you go the other way? Can you compare 2 drawings in the mobile device?
A: You can compare two mobile drawings. However, you must compare them in the desktop application. The best way to do this is to open both mobile drawing in the desktop application. Then start the DWG Compare command.
Q: How would this work with data sharing? In C3D?
A: You can share views in Civil 3D the same way you share views in AutoCAD. I assume this question actually refers to how are Civil 3D data shortcuts handled in Shared Views. Since I had not tried it yet, I promised that I would research it for you. In doing so, I created a new drawing and added two data shortcuts. One was a surface, the other was an alignment. Then I created a shared view. The data shortcuts come across fine along with their properties. When I selected the surface in the Autodesk Viewer and turned on the Properties palette, it showed the basic information about the surface (including layer name and surface statistics), as shown in the image below.
Q: Can we delete markups or change it’s status after the original drawing is revised?
A: Once you save a markup, the only way to get rid of it is to mark it as resolved.
Q: Can the mobile app/drawings be made available to an entity outside of a firm (think in terms of a vendor or outside consultant being given limited access)?
A: You can share your mobile drawing with anyone you choose. Just do the following:
- Tap the ellipses next to the drawing name in the mobile app. Then tap Manage Sharing, as shown in the image below.
- In the dialog box that appears, type the email address in the To field for the individual with whom you want to share the model.
- If you just want them to be able to see the files then select Reviewer, as shown in the image below.
- If you want them to have full rights, then select Collaborator. Finally, type a message in the bottom field. This will be the email text they receive with the link.
- Tap Share.
It is my recommendation that you create Shared Views for anyone you want to be able to review the models and provide feedback without being able to make edits. The Autodesk Browser is a great way to measure and markup the models without having any Autodesk licenses. For those you wish to give edit rights to for collaboration, share mobile drawings so they can make edits to the models in the field.
