Missing Revit Content

October 30, 2026 Cherisse Biddulph

It seems the more we try to keep our personal information safe by using antivirus software to increase the security of our computers, the harder it becomes to install software properly on our machines.

As a result of the increased security and the need for smaller installation packages, Revit's libraries and templates are not being installed with the Revit software. We now need to be diligent and self-sufficient when installing Revit content. The following explains where to find the content and how to get it installed, so you can continue using your Revit software without missing anything.

Install Updates from Your Autodesk Account

  1. Verify Revit is closed.

  1. Sign in to your Autodesk Account.

  1. Click All Products and Services.

  1. Find Revit in the product list and click View details.

  1. Click the Revit version tab at the top to access the appropriate content.

  1. Click Libraries under Available downloads.

  1. Scroll through the content and click the Download button next to the desired content.

  1. Once the content has downloaded, you will need to double-click on the .exe file in your download folder and click Install on the Autodesk Revit splash screen (shown in the image below).

Install Updates from Autodesk Access

  1. First, verify Revit is closed, and then from your task tray, click the Autodesk Access icon .

  1. In the Autodesk Access dialog box, scroll through the updates and click Update to install any that are relevant to your Revit version.

  1. After you click Update, instead of downloading, it will automatically start updating the software. You can click Cancel if needed to stop the installation.

Installing Older Versions of Revit Content

To find and install content for Revit and Revit LT versions for 2023 and older, go to the Autodesk website: Autodesk Revit Content to download the .exe files. Note that 2026, 2025, and 2024 need to be downloaded and installed from the Autodesk account.

Older versions beyond 2023 can be found on a  separate website for 2022 and for 2021. These downloads are language-specific, so verify you are downloading the correct language (e.g., Enu is English).

I hope this blog is helpful because missing Revit content is frustrating and can delay your progress in a project. Visit the ASCENT website for more of my blogs and webcasts, or take a look at our Revit courseware titles.
