I want to send a big thank you to everyone who joined me on January 24th for my webcast on selecting objects. I especially appreciate everyone who joined in the conversation to help make the event much more interactive. If you liked having it interactive like that, please leave your comments at the end of this blog. For those of you who missed the live presentation, you can watch the recording using the link below. Here is a list of what we covered:
- Click
- Shift-click (removes items from the selection)
- Window (type W+<Enter>)
- Crossing Window (type C+<Enter>)
- Polygon (type P+<Enter>)
- Crossing Polygon (type CP+<Enter>)
- Lasso
- Fence (type F+<Enter>)
- Previous (type P+<Enter>)
- Last (type L+<Enter>)
- Selection Group
- Selection Cycling
- Filters in Quick Select
- Select Similar
Some really, great questions came out of the session. I have included them below along with their answers.

Q: Is there an option to use one or the other by holding down another key or something like that?
A: Pressing the spacebar while using lasso toggles between crossing and window.

Q: Can Quick Select target custom attributes?
A: If the custom attributes are not part of a block, it will select them. Simply set the Object type to Attribute Definition in the Quick Select dialog box as shown below. Then select the properties you wish to search on. However, it the attribute sits inside a block, you can not select the block according to a specific attribute.

Q: Using the trim command, could I have chosen the curved lines around the fountain to trim the beams?
A: Yes. If you intentionally set the cutting edge by selecting the lines surrounding the fountain, you could eliminate the need to erase the line remnants inside the fountain later, as shown in the image below.
