Adding Transitions in Camtasia

June 16, 2026 Breanne MacDonald

If your video includes multiple sections or uses static images to create frames, you may want to add transitions in between for a smoother look. This is easy to do in Camtasia!

Add a Transition

  1. Add your media to the timeline. Split the media where you would like to add a transition (or add each section if working with multiple videos).

  1. In the Tools panel on the left-hand side, select Transitions.

  1. Scroll through the list of available transitions and select the one you want to add, then drag it to the appropriate track on the timeline.

  1. The ends of the sections on the track will highlight yellow (as shown above) as you drag to show where the transition can be placed. Once the correct break displays the green transition bars, release your mouse button to place the transition.

  • You can also add transitions to the start or end of your media to transition the beginning/end of the video in/out.

Edit a Transition

  • If you want to lengthen or shorten the transition, drag the end of one of the sides either in (to shorten) or out (to lengthen) This change will be applied to both sides.

  • If you want to change each side independently, add a gap between the media sections. This will allow you to select one side at a time to either change the transition length or remove the transition. Close the gap to edit the transition as a whole.

  • With the transition selected, you can change its type using the Type drop-down list in the Properties panel. You also have options to Use trimmed content and/or Reverse the transition (so the movement occurs in the opposite direction). Other options will vary depending on the selected transition, such as Width or Color.

  • To delete the transition, select it so it highlights yellow and press <Delete> or rightclick and select Delete.

Play around with the different transitions to see which option suits your video the best!
